Let us introduce you to our wonderful guest, Dr. Sanethia Thomas. Dr. Thomas currently serves as Assistant Instructional Professor at University of Florida. However, she will attest to being a lifelong student, multi-talented and multi-passionate. Listen to her inspiring story on why she decided to combine sports and tech to launch her own company and nonprofit organization and why you’re never too old to do something different.
Sanethia’s Bio–
Dr. Sanethia Thomas in an Assistant Instructional Teaching Professor at the University of Florida. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Computer & Information Science & Engineering, specifically Human Centered Computing with a certificate in Athlete Development She is a National Science Foundation Fellow and GEM Fellow. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Texas El-Paso and a Master’s of Science in Youth Development Leadership from Clemson University.
Dr. Thomas played on the USA International Women’s Basketball team where she toured in Belgium and Amsterdam. She combined her tech skills and her athletic experiences to start her own company, Second-Shot and non-profit organization, Athletes Succeed in Sport and Life. She has published her work in several journals, conferences, and magazines and received notable awards such as being recognized by Yale University’s Edward Bouchet Honors Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, National Center for Women & Information Technology, and National Academy of Inventors.
As a first generation graduate and third African- American woman to graduate from UF in her field, she is chartering research in computer science and athlete development. She sends a strong message of the importance of education and success regardless of gender and race.
